Saints Maritime Beer & Cider Festival

- Home-Start in Suffolk Pleased to be Announced as Beneficiary -

WHAT if you could enjoy one of Suffolk’s long awaited weekend festivals, catch some summer tunes, taste some East Anglian tipples – and do your bit for a critical community charity too?

Home-Start in Suffolk is delighted to announce that we’ve been confirmed as the partner charity for the forthcoming Saints Maritime Beer & Cider Festival in Ipswich.

Not only will the organisers – Beer&Co – kindly be making us the beneficiary of all fundraising during the three-day event this August, but we’ll be on hand to tell you everything you need to know about volunteering for us.n

This major summer festival, which opens from midday on Friday 18th to Sunday 20th August, is expected to see thousands descend on Ipswich waterfront – many of whom will be unaware of the potential role they could play as a volunteer for us.

The timing of the event is particularly significant for Home-Start in Suffolk, as it will be one of the first major occasions at which our new ‘county-wide’ brand will be in evidence.

Ella Collard, Fundraising Co-ordinator, said: “The festival is all set to be a really busy three-day social occasion, and for us, this makes for a great opportunity to emphasise direct to the people of Suffolk what it is we do for families – and how they could get involved.

“We’re relentless in our project delivery across the county, helping to befriend and support families at a time they really need support. It means we’re always seeking to recruit new volunteers who can give up as little as a few hours a week.

“Our team will be on the Waterfront throughout the three days and would be really pleased to share details with people about how they can contribute time, funds, or just general commitment to raising awareness within their social circuit about what we do.”

This is the second Summer Festival at St Peters by The Waterfront and organiser Greg Cooper said: “We are very pleased to have Home-Start in Suffolk as our beneficiary charity. They make such a difference to so many families – from all walks of life – so we’re glad that our event will help spread the word.”

- Suffolk County Council Grant to Enable One-to-One Family Programme -

HOME-START in Suffolk is celebrating securing close to £1million of funding in recent weeks, enabling the organisation to help hundreds more families and individuals across Suffolk

This week, the charity learned it had successfully been awarded a Suffolk County Council Family Community Support Service Contract, worth a total of over £500,000 over a three-year period.

The initial contract period, running for three years allows Home-Start to deliver one-to-one home visiting support for families across the breadth of Suffolk.

It follows hot on the heels of the charity securing a £441,217 grant from the BIG Lottery fund, to extend their support into the Waveney area, and an £89,000 sum from Children In Need, which is being used to support young people in Ipswich via one-to-one peer support programmes.

The latest contract success will see Home-Start in Suffolk – which is headquartered in Martlesham Heath – working alongside various sub-contractors across Suffolk, in order to provide the home-visit support initiative.

It aims to reduce social and rural isolation, support learning and development needs, improve education attendance, improve familial relationships, provide speedier outreach services, and increase the employability of volunteers.

The new contract will be working to an outcomes framework which will be linked to the same outcomes that both the Early Help and Social Care teams in Children’s and Young Peoples services work to in achieving sustainable outcomes for families. It allows there to be scrutiny of the effectiveness of the service delivered and to be able to demonstrate value for money. In addition, it will provide for improvement and development of the service in partnership with Children and Young Peoples Services, giving an even better service to the families of Suffolk over time.

All families being assisted through the initiative will have children between the ages of 0 and 11. Families who use the Home-Start service may have fallen on difficult financial times, experienced bereavement, reached a crisis as a result of ill health, or have moved in haste as a result of an issue such as domestic abuse. In all cases, the families have at least one young child in need of support.

Tara Somers, Scheme Manager for Home-Start East Suffolk, said: “Securing this latest contract is huge news – not just for us as a charity, but for all the many families and individuals we are now able to more successfully assist through one-to-one work.

“Resourcing effective programmes is not easy in a county as diverse as Suffolk, so this sum of money really does make all the difference.

“The fact that it comes so soon after other grant successes is incredibly rewarding for us as a team, and helps to emphasise that we are respected for the work we deliver and the difference we make to the lives of people throughout Suffolk.”

She added: “This new Programme will mean we can really go the extra mile in terms of being able to support families and enable them to become more resilient for the future.

“We are looking forward to working with our partners and volunteers to bring this to life.”

Suffolk County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills, Councillor Gordon Jones said of the contract allocation

“We are pleased to award this new contract to Home Start in Suffolk. We have been impressed with the good work that they do to support parents and families and we hope that this additional funding will further support them to help families in need and to give children in Suffolk the best possible start to life.

The contract will allow Home Start in Suffolk to work in partnership with other providers across the whole of Suffolk and deliver much needed one-to-one home visit support to those families most in need. A new single point of referral is being developed and will be ready when the new contract starts on 1st July 2017.”
